ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
Individuals interested in the Basic Nursing Assistant Program at Best Step Academy:

Must be 18 years or older

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English at 8-grade level. GED/High school diploma required

Must be in good physical health and able to lift 50 pounds. A physical examination by a licensed physician, which includes a TB (PPD skin test), is required prior to the first clinical session. Students are responsible for TB test payment

Must submit to a Criminal Background Check initiated by Best Step Academy with the Illinois State Police at the beginning of the program, in compliance with the Health Care Workers Background Check Act.
Persons with criminal records, substance abuse problems, or health problems that will interfere with safe practices may be ineligible for placement on the state registry and/or employment

HEALTH INSURANCE
Students are responsible for obtaining the necessary insurance coverage throughout the program period. Clinical training involves lifting, direct contact with patients and other activities that may cause harm or injury.
